doTerra Essential Oils For Cloth Diapering

If you have ever used cloth diapers you know it can be hard to keep them smelling fresh.  Incorporating high quality therapeutic grade essential oils with cloth diapering helps to clean and freshen both the diapers and your home.   What a huge difference and much more pleasant experience it is to use these oils for your cloth laundry needs!
Both of my kids have sensitive skin and that is why I love essential oils. I have to be very careful about what I put on my kids' skin and I use the oils on them daily and have never had a bad reaction.  I always make sure to dilute any of the hotter oils with fractionated coconut oil, a wonderful carrier oil.
First off, why use cloth diapers?
From birth through toilet training, your baby will go through as many as 9,000 diapers and  it takes 20 trees to make a two-year diaper supply for one baby!  Cloth diapers can be reused hundreds of times.  In 1995 just in Sunnyvale, California they found that its residents threw away 840 tons of diapers  per year and that is in one city.  It takes centuries for disposable diapers to decompose in the landfill.
Laundering diapers can have an impact on the environment as well but you can take measures to make laundering more efficient. Try to wash only full loads and and sprinkle baking soda in your diaper pail with a cotton ball that has several drops of lemon essential oil on it to control odors. Line dry your diapers which helps freshen them even more.
Tips and recipes to make your diapering experience more pleasant and easy:
In the wash add 3 -4 drops of Melalueca, Purify Cleansing Blend or lemon oil to the rinse to clean  your diapers. Melaleuca oil helps to remove dirt from diapers as they soak. Lemon gives the diapers a subtle, fresh aroma as they rinse. I add in a 1 Tbsp. of vinegar to the rinse water to give some additional cleaning support.
To clean and freshen the diaper pailyou can make a spray with any mix or single oil by mixing 10 drops of essential oil with 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water.  I like to use Purify Cleansing Blend the best but also use melaleuca, lemon, lime, Protective Blend, grapefruit  and white fir.  Then put a couple drops of any of the above or one of your favorites on a cotton ball and place in the bottom of the pail to keep it smelling fresh.
To make your own baby wipes follow this easy recipe.
What You Need:
1 roll premium paper towels
2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons Fractionated Coconut Oil
3 drops Lavender essential oil
3 drops Melaleuca essential oil

An airtight storage container/empty wipe container/wet bag
Use cloth for reusable wipes.  I love the bamboo wash clothes  for babies!
Directions:
1- Cut paper towel roll in half with a serrated or electric knife. Use half the roll now, and half later.
2- Combine water, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and essential oils in a small bowl.
3- Pour the mixture over the paper towels and then cover with the airtight lid letting the mixture absorb for 10 minutes.
4- Turn the container over and let sit for another 10 minutes.
5- Remove and discard the cardboard middle. Just pull the wipes from the center when you are ready to use. Store in container of your choice.  I always just used a glass tupperware.
