Natural Ways To Support Healthy Elimination

Here is a large and improved list of natural solutions to get you or your child's digestive system working efficiently:

Pure Clean WATER! - The colon needs to be hydrated and one of the best things you can do is make sure you are hydrating with water.  Drinking a large glass first thing in the morning is a great way to hydrate and get things moving after a long night in bed.  Eight 8-oz glasses per day are generally recommended. My 5 year old drinks a full 8 oz. glass with me. We squeeze 1/2 a lemon into each of our glasses, sit out on the back deck, and I can't think of a better way to wake up.

Supplements

Intestinal Movement  by Healthforce Nutritionals - by far my favorite  and works like a charm for adults and kids who can swallow capsules.

Magnesium Citrate -  Magnesium helps to increase the strength and regularity of the intestine's muscular contractions and relaxes the nervous system. You will know you have reached too high of a dose if you start to experience loose stools.

Vitamin C - Natural Vitamin C Healthforce Nutritionals,  Lipo-Spheric Vitamin C

Artichoke - Supports liver function and enhances healthy bile flow.

Aloe Vera - I like Georges Aloe. It has no weird taste and can be easily added to kids' drinks and/or anyone can drink it straight.

Triphala - Triphala is an Ayurvedic preparation that constitutes three herbal components: amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki. Triphala serves the purpose of a purgative laxative as well as lubricating bulk laxative.

Teas

You can usually find the below teas at any of your local health food stores.  These teas contain senna but are fine for occasional use and all work well with a great blend of herbs.

Smooth Move Tea
Tulsi Lax

Foods

Cultured Foods - This is one of my favorite types of food for everyone to learn how to make and add to their diets. These beneficial organisms crowd out harmful microbes that may impair digestion and elimination.

Lots of vegetables and fruits and chew, chew, chew.  Chewing your food well, especially fibrous produce, aids digestion and stimulates peristalsis in the colon.
